Indian Creek Island: a history linked to its unique geography

Indian Creek Island was an abandoned island until the 1920s, when a few wealthy owners decided to create a golf course there. From then on, about forty lots were planned to accommodate the properties of the most wealthy people in Miami. The architect was Maurice Fatio, a Swiss immigrant to the United States and a resident of Palm Beach.

In the thirties, the government of Florida plans to include Indian Creek Island in a larger artificial island before abandoning the project because of the Great Depression, but decides nevertheless to dedicate the island as a true municipality.

At the end of the century, the old houses were gradually razed to make way for luxurious mansions dedicated to the world's greatest fortunes and some celebrities.

From then on, access to the island was highly controlled, and reserved almost exclusively for the guests of the residents. The legend of Indian Creek Island gradually took shape as the most exclusive island in the United States.
