Today we have the pleasure to meet Pierre-Hugo Dupey, Sales Director for Legend Hill, a unique project on Mauritius.
Hi Pierre-Hugo, could you tell us more about you company, MJ Development?
Hi, thanks for having me ! Our company, MJ Development, is based in France, is 15 years old, and started activities in Mauritius in 2014. We are developing different kinds of project : first developing cities in France, then commercial real estates, developing strong lifestyle concepts. We also develop real estate around services and finally we launched a line focusing on french and mauritian luxury real estate.
Great ! Can you tell us why did MJ development come to Mauritius?
Well, the founders of the company came here for a long time with their family. They fell in love with the island, like, I think, everybody who comes here, and eventually, they decided to start doing real estate here. It happened to be a perfect fit for the new line of luxury services MJ wanted to offer. So basically, they came ten years ago, met the right people and had a good idea. As they were young, they just decided to jump in!
So after the Margaery villas, we are now having a new project right now in construction, Legend Hill. Could you tell more about the concept of this resort lifestyle?
It’s being built at the moment. It’s our latest project and it’s in the line of what we’ve developed so far, which is to day luxury real estate with luxury services available. Legend Hill is more luxurious, the property itself is incredible. We wanted to have something truly five-stars, with special architecture and services. So we decided to partner with Fenix Hotel collection, and this is going to allow us to provide the five-star services that you expect from this kind of hotel, restaurants, spa, fitness center and property management. This is a great partnership and we want to continue developing in that direction.
Wow, so no wonder it is selling quite fast. There is only a few units left. What would you say is the profile of the clients this project attracts?
There is a mix of two main profiles, mainly from Europe. The majority of our clients are entrepreneurs in their fifties, coming to Mauritius for some time, and having the dream to settle here for a greater part of their time. So they are going to come for a couple month every year, and benefit from our property management system.
We are also seing a younger generation, families, investing in and moving to Mauritius.
Legend Hill is much more than a simple real estate project, it’s full fledged five-star resort. Why did you choose this particular niche?
When we were offered the piece of land, we fell in love with it immediately. When you get this type of land, you kind of have a responsibility to develop it correctly. So it was a lot of work and we focused on it for a lot of time. It was also in the continuity of what we were already doing. The site just called for it!
What do you think is the potential of luxury in Mauritius?
Obviously, we think Mauritius has a great potential, that’s why we are developing here, and want to continue to do so. Everybody knows Mauritius has beautiful landscapes and beaches, but it is even more than this : the people are amazing, the service is widely-know too. What is new is that you see now developments. We thought we could bring more, and there is a demand for it.
Mauritius is reopening soon, how are you preparing for this event?
We are very eager to welcome back people on the island ! The government did a great job containing the virus this last year and a half. We have seen a lot of interest in the last 12 months, people are very eager to come on the island. Hotels are fully booked until December !
